The Correct Way To Change A Wheel
1. Shut engine off, set parking brake and
put transmission in Park position if automatic or Reverse gear if manual. Car should be
parked on as flat a surface as possible. Block the wheel diagonally opposite to the one to
be removed.
2. Remove spare wheel , jack, jack base
and wheel wrench from luggage compartment.
3. Pry off wheel covers with flat end of
wheel wrench, insert pry in area furthest (180°) from valve stem and twist.
4. Loosen wheel nuts before using jack.
Turn wheel nuts toward rear of the car to loosen.
5. Fit jack hook on bottom edge of bumper
approximately 20" from center of car. Set jack in position without slanting.
6. Insert wheel wrench in jack; set control finger for
"up" position and "pump" until wheel is clear of ground.
7. Remove nuts and pull wheel off hub.
8. Install spare and lightly tighten nuts alternating
from upper left to lower right and upper right to lower left. Set control finger for
"down" position and lower the car. The finish tightening. Put wheel covers in
place and hit sharply with heel of hand in area 180° from valve stem. Remove block from
wheel.
Caution: A bumper jack is a tire-changing tool only if it is
necessary to work under the car, place supports under car structure.
