Charlie' Challenger

Up Next

In the pic with the wires, you can see the condition of the engine bay before blasting.  You can see the before and after of the hood, I did not put all of the bondo, the green is mine after fixing the crappy job done previously.  That is the room that I do my bead blasting in and the pic of me doing the engine bay.  And that is a pic my welding equipment, you don’t see me welding because I’m taking the picture.  Ill send pics as I take them.

Story:

after searching for a charger for several months, I came upon a 1974 challenger. I saw it once and decided I had to buy it. I paid 2700 for it. Little did I know what I had. After getting it home, reading through the included yearone catalog and deciphering the fender tags I realized what I had. Turns out it is a Challenger SE, I guess the doorpanel inserts gave that away but thats not all. It has the A57 rallye package, the highperformance police 360 4 barrol, fully optioned out except the light package (trunk, engine, map lights, etc.) this car is cool. Also a few days before I actually got the car, I found a 440 4 barrol running great in an old imperial. The guy pulled it and everything and sold it to me complete for $300. Talk about a bargain. After decoding the block, I found out it is a 440 rb, 10:1 compression. There was hardy even a ridge on the cylinder tops. This engine is clean. The only thing so far needing to be done is new valve guides. The car has the A717 tf in it. I got a heavy duty rebuild kit for it and a tci performance valve body with a scat shift kit. As far as the interior goes, its all mostly there. I'm getting the seats recovered, and new carpet. Thats all that really need doing, maybe the headklimer in awhile. I will redye the plastic, add new doorpanel inserts and i have a new shifter plate. The body is the only bad thing. Both rear quarters are rusted out but I'll ba able to manage. I have beadblasted the engine bay and painted it, blasted the driver fender and hood and are both in primer. The rest of the car will be a breeze except for the rear quarters. If anyone knows where to get some, please let me know. I have been working for about a month now, will be driving in a few weeks and will be done shortly after that. And a little background info about me. I am 17, I work at a body shop, I have 2 other cars: a 72 bug and a 67 vw bug. The 72 is fully restored and used to belong to joe dimaggio's brothers wife. the 67 was a rolling chassis, 3 colors. It now is one color: blue, has jeep grand cherokee leather seats, 5 point harnesses 2 10 inch subs, 2 6x9's, amps and a blau cd player.  the engine is 1600 with a cam and 2 barrol weber with glasspacks, sounds mean. As you will see in the pictures, I do all of the work myself with helpfrom my dad, he does most of the engine stuff, I all of the rest. I dont believe in paying people to do anything but machine work because I dont have 15k to spend on the machines:)
